Week 12 and time for a strong finish to the college football season. As I mentioned last week, at this time of the year I like siding with the teams that I think are better, even if I have to lay some points and although I was only 3-2 last week, I'm staying with this theory. Not much else to say here, just time to pick 5 winners this week.
Ohio St. -11.5 @ Michigan. Alright, yes, the Buckeyes failed to live up to my expectations last week, but I'm rolling with them again this week @ Michigan. I know Prior has struggled mightily all year, but even in the big house this Saturday, I expect Ohio St. to roll their arch-rival Wolverines. Expect Michigan to struggle to move the ball at all, and even with Prior's struggles, the Buckeyes should put more than enough points on the board in this week. And, although it is not very scientific, I'm heading to Cleveland tomorrow so it makes it easy to watch and cheer on The OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY. 2 units.
Penn St. -3 @ Michigan St. Yep, the Chicago Kid doesn't have much confidence in the State of Michigan this weekend. The Spartans are tough to call this year, and PSU isn't that easy either, but I think Penn St. has found enough of a rhythm to beat the Spartans, even in East Lansing. Although the Nittany Lions struggle to score sometimes, their D is solid and Michigan St.'s inconsistent offense will really have problems moving the ball this week. Paterno has to be a little disappointed at how this season has gone for PSU, but I think he will still have them ready to play on the road to finish the season on a solid note. 2 units.
Boise St. -23 @ Utah St. Going back to an old-faithful here with the Broncos. BSU traditionally dominates on the road, and should be focused on Friday night to destroy Utah St. to put on a show on national TV for the BCS voters. Always tough to lay 23, especially on the road, but I have confidence in the Broncos to turn this into a route early and keep their foot on the gas. 2.5 units.
Rutgers -8.5 @ Syracuse. Well, at the beginning of the season, especially after the Cincy game, I do not think I'd be in a position to lay 8.5 points on the road with Rutgers; BUT, they are really playing well lately, both home and away. AND, let's not forget they are playing the Cuse, not terribly intimidating to head into a 3/4 empty Carrier Dome and play against a pretty poor Orangeman team. Rutgers will continue to roll at the expense of the Cuse, sorry Greg Paulus, it was a valiant effort. 3 untis.
LSU +4 @ Ole Miss. Well, yes, I did take 5 road teams this week, I don't care, I least I have my single underdog in LSU (I almost took NWern too; and may still outside of my picks). I am surprised to see the Tigers get this little respect at Ole Miss. Is it because they no longer can win the SEC? Maybe because their offense has struggled all year? Maybe because they are on the road in the SEC? Despite all of those being true, that doesn't change the great athletes they will put on the field. Ole Miss has been inconsistent all year and has struggled to score on teams with solid and athletic defenses, like LSU - see S.Carolina and Bama games. LSU's offense is continuing to improve (slowly) and I expect them continue that trend this week as Ole Miss will miss their star D-end. 3 units.
There you have it, my 5 CFB picks ATS for week 12. Good luck!
