Can't believe it is already week 4 of the college football season, where does time go?? 2011 definitely off to a good start for the CK, but can't rest as it doesn't get any easier as there are fewer and fewer 'surprise' lines as the season wears on. Well, it's Wednesday and I'm going to post a few picks that I've already settled on this week because I've heard through the grape vine that some folks would prefer that I post picks earlier in the week. I will promise to do my best to accommodate that request, but unfortunately many times life / work get in the way and delay my ability to fully research games and post the picks. Although I'm very tempted this week to continue to ride a few of the teams that I don't think are getting enough respect in Vegas, I'm also a little leery because it is not usually that easy.
So, with that said, let''s get to it and see if I can maintain the momentum....
Temple +9 @ Maryland. I really don't understand why Temple isn't getting much respect. Let's be honest, they are not great, but they are a well coached veteran team that plays sound defense and has a good rushing attack. I in my mind, that is exactly the type of team you want to look for when you can get them getting some points - like here. The O'Brian kid can play and the Terps have some firepower, but they are less than impressive on D. And I think Maryland will struggle to get too excited for the Owls coming to visit after already playing the U and WVA this year. I think Maryland holds on for a home W, but believe Temple will be able to ugly the game up enough to cover the number. 2.5 units.
Florida -20 @ Kentucky. Like many others, i missed jumping on this line on Sunday night; should have known it was too good to be true and wouldn't last. Oh well, still got it at less than 3 TDs. I realize laying 20 points on the road in the SEC is rarely a good idea and you won't see the CK do it very often, but this is an exception. I know the Gators struggled last year, but they were in flux. Coach Muschamp has righted the ship, especially on D, and I think they are continuing to understand and grow into Weis' offense, namely Brantley. I expect the Wildcats to struggle to score and likely will be held to single digits and don't think they can keep the Florid offense below 30 as they just have too many weapons. 2 units.
There are the first 2 picks for week 4. I have not finalized my remaining 3 favorites yet so I will post the remaining picks either late tomorrow or on Friday - but still plenty of time before kickoff on Saturday.

I think you nailed the Temple one, and let's hope you hit on Florida too, considering.
ReplyDeleteNice change of pace seeing picks from someone in the challenge before the end of the week!

Thx, and I hope you are right. I'm on several of your picks, but just not yet sure if they will make the list (like Cincy tonight will not even though I like it). Doing my best to get the picks up early - damn real life sometimes.....
ReplyDeleteHey Chicago Kid, I'm the one who said to take Cincy -4 at half on Walter's board and looking like I will hit my 2 prop bets. I like Temple as well and I read somewhere that the Florida line opened up at -11.5 and within 2 hours it was -18? Now its around 20. Did you hear of this? I'm also on the fence with UCF +3 @ BYU tomorrow. I'm taking Godfrey's over 30.5 on rushing yards but I believe UCF has what it takes to win outright. Thoughts?

Hey SMB, thanks for reaching out. I need to add a comment board like Walt, but just haven't had the time to focus. I did 'hear' that FL opened at 11.5, but lowest I saw it at was 16. I honestly don't have any real thoughts or feelings on the UCF/BYU game so I don't want to speculate - I'm sure you know more than I. Still trying to refine my last 3 picks (plus any other games). There are definitely some interesting ones, but a lot of them seem to be potential traps - but in fairness, I guess all games are. I should also follow props a little more, but again, just not that up on it.
