As we head into week 3 I see a lot of games I like, but I have to just make sure I am not over confident after a 9-1 start over the first 2 weeks so I need to do a little more research. However, I need to post the first of my 5 picks this week tonight because they are playing tomorrow. So, my first pick of week 3 is.....
LSU -3 @Miss St. I'm sure I'll be going against Walter's game of the week or something as he loves solid teams playing at home on weeknights as Dogs. I often agree with him as his record of success speaks for itself, but not here. On top of being the better team, LSU had what was essentially a scrimmage last week so the short week won't be an issue for them; but Miss St on the other hand lost a very close, hard fought game in dramatic fashion at Auburn. That would be tough to bounce back from at all, much less on a short week. So, now to the field, when is the last time you saw anyone dominate LSU on the ground?? Well, I can't think of it either. The Bulldogs are at home and will be fired up (and banged up on the O-line by the way); but they still do not have the ground game of the Ducks who are barely able to produce 100 yards rushing. LSU's D is a monster, especially against the run so I expect Miss St. to struggle to move the ball consistently. It is often slightly (sometimes severely) painful to watch the Tigers offense, but they typically find a way to put points on the board (often aided by the D). So, Miss St is at home and it will be a rowdy crowd, but SEC teams are used to that so I don't expect it to be a difference maker. The mad scientist will get it done again en route to setting up what should be a war with Bama for the SEC West. 3 units. Win.
Check back on Friday for the rest of my week 3 picks.
