College Football Week 3 . . . . 5-0

First, I want to thank Joker for the extra motivation this week as he called me out on my picks. Since we all have bad weeks (see my first 2), instead of bringing up Mr. Joker's less than stellar performance this week, I thought I would thank him by posting a picture of another Bama fan . . . .

Moving on from CFB, while I pick each NFL game in a pick-em contest, I do not always venture into the picks on individual games, but this week there are 2 games that are extremely interesting so I thought I would provide my thoughts.

First, why are the Steelers only laying 3 to the Bears? Yeah, I am a huge Chicago fan, but not a Chicago sports fan. Did anyone watch the Bears on Sunday Night Football? They almost stole a win in GB, but did not play well. Steelers on the other hand are the Steelers, they just win. Both teams are missing key elements on defense, but I do not see this impacting the Steelers nearly as much as the Bears. Although Mr. Cutler is a good QB, his receivers are not (see last week) and no one can run consistently on the Steelers, much less Mr. Forte (aka Mr. 2.2 YPR vs GB). So, although Pitt rarely blows teams out because of their style of play, I do not expect this game to be close for long. The Bears will be forced into obvious throwing downs regularly and will not be able to count on their receivers to make plays. Steelers -3 @ Chicago. Thanks Jeff Reed! Seriously . . . .

Second, the Giants getting 3 points at Dallas. When I first saw this spread I thought it was G-men -3 (not +3) and still liked the Giants. I am not a believer yet in Dallas without T.O. The Giants are also missing a real deep threat at WR, but Eli is very solid and they can run the ball, which usually wins games in the NFL. I expect this game to be a close throughout, but think the Giants will win (and if not, you're getting 3 points). I am not alone in this pick as Walter has it as his September Pick of the Month. Also, as I don't follow the NFL as closely as college football, I want to thank Walter for all of his write-ups on the games as I rely heavily on them for my pick-em contest.

  1. Nice job on the 5-0 weekend. I have only managed a pedestrian 8-7 ATS record on my college action. I'm looking to rebound starting this weekend. I have been relying on my NFL action for my profit margin. Good to see another handicapper on here!

  2. Thanks, I needed it as my first week was hideous . . . Defintely hoping to keep it going this week as there are several games I really like now, but need to do some more research. Hope to post my picks later tonight or tomorrow.
