Well, as much as I like College Football Saturday, College Basketball Saturday is a very close second! It is also one of the few days that gives me sufficient time to research the hoops games until I have chance to see most of the major teams a few times and need less research as we get into conference play. So, with that here a few CBB picks by the Chicago Kid . . .
UNC +7 @ Texas (Cowboy Stadium). I am huge fan of this Texas team as they are talented, very deep and experience; but Carolina isn't bad either. UNC is young and still finding themselves so they struggle from time to time to find offense, but they have a variety of weapons and should be improving with more and more practice time - as Roy is no dummy. As much as I like Texas, I think this is a tough spot for them to cover a decent number because although considered a 'home' game, it is at a football stadium and that is much different than a real home game. I expect most fans will be behind the Horns, but not like going into their house. Also, UNC is used to traveling and playing everywhere as they played UK in a war in a true road game. I also know that UNC has not been great ATS this year, but Texas is prone to lapses on both ends of the floor and I think UNC will capitalize on this and make this a tight game throughout. So, maybe it is just that getting 7 with UNC is to good to pass up, but I think Heels keep it close and may have a chance at the end.
Florida -6.5 vs Richmond. This game is also a neutral site game, but played in the state of Florida so expect them to have the majority of the fans. Richmond is a solid A-10 team and always seems to be a factor come NCAA time, but they have struggled away from home this year and I think they are just a little lacking in personnel to keep up with the Gators here. Florida is young and so you don't know what to expect all of the time, but I think this could get ugly early.
Cuse -20 vs Bonnies. Come on, this isn't even fair! I almost feel bad for the Bonnies as they are in trouble. Yeah, I know 20 is a lot and Cuse may struggle to get up for this game, but it is at home and I think they can play at about 80% and win by 30 so I'll lay the 20. The disparity in talent in this one is so severe the NCAA really should consider whether this game should be allowed to be played. For the Bonnies sake, I hope it is at least not on TV.
